Certain tests have been developed that can identify genes that can point to susceptibility to specific medical conditions.

 

Glossary

  • DNA -- Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA is the genetic blueprint for the creation of a unique living thing. Contained within the DNA structure are different genes.

  • Gene -- this is a unit that passes characteristics of the parent to the offspring, genes make up part of our unique DNA

  • Genetics -- Is a science that deals with heredity and variation in living things

  • Heredity -- This is the transfer of characteristics from a parent to a offspring through their genes
